Check out Montana Canoes new slicked up website promoting their new line of composite Occoees and Captions.
http://www.mtcanoes.com

Heather and I visited Montana in 2014 and paddled with the locals on the Blackfoot River and saw for the first time their composite Occoees.

It was a very slick ride and definitely a competitive and playful boat. At that time it was still a 'garage' style venture, turning out hulls one at a time for local customers that actually involved some hands on owner assembly. To get one you had to line up mold time and hang out locally for a week, helping build your own boat. Couldn't happen, although I was much impressed with the boat.

Times have changed, licences to produce are in line, and Montana Canoes is now a going commercial venture, producing hulls that are a wonderful graphic design departure from the old royalex monotones of red, blue, and green or... green, blue and red.

Montana Canoes only make Occoees and Captions and ... that is all they have to do, imho. Two of the best classic designs on the water, just great boats, I have owned them both, and love paddling them.

Just to see what is new,it is worth looking at their site.

Anyways, the game continues, but with more style. The death of Royalex has freed up the imagination, and the pocket book, driving interest in new designs out of new materials. Fun to be had in canoeing.
